Capacity addition, project viability bring zing to hydropower stocks

India has a hydropower potential of 250 GW of which only 21% is tapped. Since hydropower has one of the lowest greenhouse emissions, it is a preferred source of renewable energy. Despite that, the addition to hydropower capacity in the country was dismal due to long delay in environmental clearance and long gestation period in the construction of power plants accompanied by cost overruns.
