ET Analysis: Bulk of credit card loans are subprime

Despite the RBI’s imposition of higher risk weights on unsecured lending, credit card outstanding has grown by 34 percent year-on-year as of end-November. The outstanding dues amount to Rs 2.4 lakh crore, accounting for 5 percent of retail loans. The RBI has been encouraging the use of technology and underwriting models to mitigate risk.
